Fantastic...... until the last evening!
We spent an enjoyable two weeks at Restia Suites. The accommodation, grounds and food were all very good. As for the staff, they were completely brilliant and looked after us exeptionally well, always with a smile and a chat. The location is stunning, right next to the beach, with great views. Restia is marketed as an adult's retreat, so we were a bit surprised to see several families with teenage children. Apparently over 16s are allowed to stay, so not truly adults only. I would have given Restia 5 stars but unfortunately events on our last evening spoilt things for us. We returned to our room after dinner to discover water running through the light fittings and down several walls in our bathroom. It transpired the bath in the suite above ours had leaked. These things happen and we could have excused it had the owner not been totally fixated on curing the leak rather than the comfort of his guests. We should have been offered a different room straightaway. When this didn't happen we assumed it was because the hotel was full, it was only when I asked, nearly two hours after we had discovered the leak, if we could be moved, that we were given a new room. By this time we were upset, fed up and tired. We had an early departure the next day, having had hardly any sleep. The owner came to say goodbye but he made no mention of what had happened the previous evening, let alone giving us an apology. He really let himself and his hotel down, which is a shame. More
Perfect in every way.
Wow! What can I say. This hotel is absolutely beautiful and we had the most amazing time staying here. From the moment we arrived for our two weeks stay we knew that we had made the right choice. First visit to the Restia Suites and first visit to Corfu but it certainly won't be the last. We were so impressed that we booked a return visit next year before we returned home. The pool room we had was superb, providing extensive facilities. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the twice daily maid service ensured that everything was kept immaculately clean. It was wonderful having the garden with private pool. It was so tranquil and relaxing and the day bed was so comfortable it was very easy to fall asleep on it! The food served in both restaurants was exceptionally good and the service was faultless. The hotel offers a good choice of wines and we really enjoyed all those we tried. The terrace by the pool is a lovely spot to sit for a pre-dinner drink and as the evenings were so warm we appreciated the air-conditioned fans which kept the temperature comfortable. We absolutely loved the choice of music which was playing quickly in the background. It could have been taken straight from our music collection at home. The Greek night is a nice touch and provides an opportunity to sample lots of local dishes. The staff take the time to explain the sources of the food on offer and encourage you to sample and compare all kinds of things from local cheeses and olives to wines, beers and liqueurs. Dining is relaxed and unhurried and the menu choices are wonderful. The staff continually strive to provide the best possible experience for their guests and nothing is too much trouble. They are all so lovely, kind and helpful and they are a credit to the hotel. The hotel manager has assembled an excellent team and many of the staff have worked there for a long time. So many of the guests were returning visitors and so get to know the staff very well. By the time we left we felt like we were saying goodbye to good friends. The hotel is in a lovely, peaceful location right on the beach. My husband enjoyed walking through the local countryside every day and it's possible to walk along to Acharavi centre. We hired a car for three days and really enjoyed visiting some other places along the north coast. Roda is very close by and is well worth a visit and we really enjoyed visiting Kassiopi and also Kalami where the Durrells White House is. We also visited Sidari. The hotel arranged the car hire for us and the car was delivered to and collected from the hotel, which was so convenient. It was my birthday while we were there and my husband arranged with the hotel to have a beautiful bouquet of flowers delivered to our suite. The hotel also sent me a lovely card, some chocolates and some drinks on a tray. Such a lovely gesture and much appreciated. The hotel grounds are beautiful and the gardeners work tirelessly to keep everything looking perfect. The setting is stunning. There is a backdrop of pine clad mountains behind and the beach and turquoise sea in front. The coastline is so interesting and the road to Kalami twists and winds along the coast, offering stunning views and is, at times almost swallowed up by pine, olive and cypress trees. It's definitely worth hiring a car, although the roads aren't for the faint-hearted. We will definitely hire a car again as there is still do much to see and do. We had intended to hire a car for a week of the two weeks but we had difficulty tearing ourselves away from the hotel! The attention to detail, the friendliness of the staff and exceptionally high standards are what makes this hotel stand out. Without doubt, the best hotel we have ever stayed in. A real gem!More
Just gets better
This was our 7th visit to this hotel since it opened in 2009 and it just gets better every year. It is clear that they listen to the guests as there are subtle changes every time we have visited. The number of returners is testimony to its perfection. When we first booked we watched it being built on a website and couldn't believe how beautiful it was. It has improved with the maturity of the grounds and gardens and everything is as pristine as it was in 2009. Clearly well maintained and spotless. We always book a pool room and just love the privacy and the luxury of it. The biggest change this year was that it was exclusively half board. Although it was no change for us as we almost always upgraded to half board anyway. However, we did wonder if the quality of service would be different given that all the guests were half board. We need not have worried. The restaurant has been extended and the service and quality of the food remains exceptional. We never had to wait despite it being busier. There is a full a la carte menu to chose from and every evening there is a chef's special. Plenty of choice and there is also the restaurant above if you want something different. Plus the views from the upstairs restaurant are spectacular! Breakfast is buffet style and amazing choices of hot and cold food. However, there is also an egg menu if you want something different to the scrambled egg on the buffet. Fresh orange juice and Greek coffee if required are delivered to your table. As I have said before on other reviews, this hotel can be anything you want it to be. Sometimes we have just chilled and done nothing. Sometimes we have walked for miles around the coastline. Once we hired a car for the full two weeks and toured all around the island. Sometimes we have booked on Tui trips. We have occasionally eaten out at nearby tavernas. This time we both chilled and toured by hiring a car for 5 days. It was lovely to visit nearby Acharavi, Roda, Sidari and Kassiopi. We also visited the spectacular west coastline. Vivienne on reception organised our hire car and was able to get us exactly what we wanted. It was so easy. The company brought the car to the hotel and we left the car in the car park and keys in reception at the end of our hire period. Now, I cannot leave this review without mentioning the staff. Everyone is so helpful and pleasant without being 'in your face'. (Most travellers will know exactly what that means.) It is a five star hotel but the staff are ten star. Restaurant, bar, reception, housekeeping and maintenance/gardeners are without a doubt the best staff of any hotel we have visited. They, along with the owners, have always made this place special. They all always have time for you and nothing is a problem and yes, we have already booked for next year to go back to this fabulous place.More
Wow, we have just returned from a week at Restia Suites, Corfu - we had the best time. The resort is so relaxing and peaceful. The grounds/gardens are immaculate. The views from the hotel are beautiful particularly the sunsets. We had a pool room which was totally worth it for us. We liked the adults only atmosphere, very quiet and calm - nothing ever felt busy or crowded. The food was absolutely delicious and we loved the Greek night. The staff make this place extra special because you are treated like an individual not just another customer. The staff are really friendly and helpful but also respect your privacy. All staff went above and beyond for us including the owners, we felt it was very personal. We loved our stay at Restia Suites, we couldn't fault anything. It was exactly what we needed a quiet, relaxed week in a tranquil paradise. We really hope to return next year.More
Having just returned from holiday here, I can confirm what other reviewers state: a superb hotel providing service that, in our opinion, was second to none. It's rare to find every single staff member to be so friendly and helpful- the best possible service to guests is clearly their aim and all employees, without exception, buy into this ideal. No over the top, 'front of house' egos in evidence- simply consistent, quietly respectful, friendly service. Accommodation is spacious and very well appointed. Some people we spoke to had opted for upgraded rooms to include private pool, but felt they missed out a little on socialising around the hotel pool, where loungers, despite it being August, were always available. Similarly, loungers were always available on the private decking just across the quiet road, next to the beach. Swimming in the sea, especially when the waves were rolling in was great fun. A word of caution though: this hotel is, as others have said, relatively isolated, so if for example promenading after dinner to find a range of bars and shops close by is important, this will not be the the location for you. If you do venture out after dusk, mosquitoes, are an issue, however the staff successfully manage this issue within the confines of the hotel grounds. The only thing that in my opinion could be improved upon was the gym: it is not particularly inviting and some of the equipment has seen better days Overall a lovely and very special experience.More
