Offering sandy beaches, traditional town squares and resorts to suit every mood, holidays to Corfu cover summer holidays from every angle.
Winning sands
An island escape wouldn’t be anything without perfectly-formed beaches, and there are plenty to choose from on a Cruise & Stay holiday to Corfu. Both Glyfada and Alykes Potamos come with Blue Flag strips. From the latter, you can see as far as Albania. But, the beaches aren’t just reserved for sunbathing – there’s also a busy watersports scene. In Gouvia, hire jet-skis and banana boats, or charter a boat to pretty Agni Bay.
Traditional tavernas
Greeks love their food, so even the sleepiest of towns comes with a handful of family-run tavernas. Here, you can fill up on garlic-doused tzatziki, grilled feta and moussaka. Alternatively, try a true Corfiot meal – pastitsatha – in Corfu Town. It’s a spaghetti and rooster dish, cooked with cinnamon, paprika and cumin. For something more upmarket, dine with views of gleaming yachts in Gouvia’s marina.
Laid-back nights
Gouvia’s smart harbour is also the setting for laid-back evenings out, with its selection of waterside cocktail bars. There’s usually live music coming from one of the hotels – and this continues back in the village, too. Over in the capital, Corfu Town, things have taken a cosmopolitan turn with Art Nouveau-style bars and rooftop retreats.
Days out
When it comes to daytrips, Corfu Town is found right in the middle of the isle. The old town really shows off the capital’s 8th-century roots, with a mix of French and Italian architecture. The whole place is watched over by two Venetian forts – the newest of which gives sweeping views over the city’s rooftops. The older fortress, meanwhile, hosts open-air concerts and exhibitions.
