Good for what we paid
We have just returned from 7 nights here. After reading previous reviews we were a bit nervous that we were going to stay in a retirement home (we are a young'ish couple in our 20s/early 30s) however that was not the case the age split was probably about 30% retired couples and 70% a mix of all other ages. The hotel decor is a little dated but is well maintained and clean. The rooms and corridors are carpeted which although is old fashioned I didn't mind this too much as it helped with sound proofing - you wasn't woken up at the crack of dawn to the sound of flip flops down the corridors! We stayed in a standard room so had a land view but there was no noise and to be honest the cost to upgrade to a sea view is extortionate for the amount of time spent in the room! We only stayed bed and breakfast, breakfast was fine plenty of choice and food was always hot. The pool area was great - plenty of sunbeds so no need to get up early and reserve - you could get one at any time of day and they are nicely spaced apart. The ones on the grass area in between the pool and the beach are lovely overlooking the sea but still close to the pool and bar. The beach is rocky but there are 2 jettys going out in to the sea for swimming (the left hand side one is best as deeper water so you don't catch your feet on the rocks). We ate lunch in the pool bar most days which was fine - the younger staff are pretty useless but the older gentleman was on the ball and we didn't have to wait long for service. The main harbour is about 25 mins walk along the coastal path where there are plenty of bars and good restaurants. I wouldn't recommend this hotel for families as there really isn't a lot to do for children - however it is not advertised as such so don't understand why people are complaining about this? From what we saw the evenings in the hotel were very much for the 70+ age group, so if you are younger and wanting luxury all inclusive then probably not for you but if like us you want a nice place to relax and chill during the day then go out into paphos on an evening then it is great! The hotel charges 60 euros for a late check out which is ridiculous. You can book a courtesy room for 30 minutes for free which we did for 5:30pm on our departure day. We went to reception at 5:25, the miserably lady on reception glanced at the list and shrugged her shoulders and said 'no, not booked'. We protested that we had booked and she looked at her watch and said 'well it's not 5:30 yet so I won't bother looking into it until it is' - it was 5:27 by this point!! She then just walked away. We went to another lady on reception who just checked the list and gave us a key so no idea what the other lady's problem was. The courtesy room is vile - basically a giant steaming hot wet room with a shower and toilet, but I suppose this is to encourage you to pay the 60 euros. Overall we really enjoyed our stay mainly due to the pool area being so nice. However the incident on the last day has put us off returning so we will probably try one of the newer hotels next time.More
My wife and two friends with whom we regularly holiday, have just returned from a three week stay at The Athena Beach Hotel(my wife and I as returnees to the excellent Constantinou Bros chain and our friends as first timers). We each stayed in the Junior Suites with sea view and private pool, and to prove how good it was, we instantly booked another three weeks, at the same time next year in the same Suites. The staff throughout were a credit to the hotel and whilst we didn’t get to know the names of all we came into contact with, special mentions must go to Marina (plus Michael, Kristina and I think Nicholas) in the Zephyr, the exceptionally polite Alex (plus Dominick, Vargas, Yuri and the girls) in the Bar Veranda area, and particular special mention to Odile who was superb in all she turned her hand to. So much has already been said on the plus side in previous reviews, and rightly so, whilst the negative reviews are no doubt based on individual personal issues which should not reflect on the overall five star quality of the Athena Beach Hotel. In addition, thoroughly recommend a short trip to the beautiful village of Omodos if you get the opportunity.More

First visit to Athena Beach Hotel - will definitely return!
Stayed at Athena Beach Hotel for the first time as my son was getting married at the little chapel 5 minutes away and held the venue at a wonderful golf resort. The staff at Athena Beach Hotel were simply amazing so attentive, it was clear to see that it was very important to them that guests had a wonderful stay. Each morning going to breakfast staff would greet us with a very warm welcome. The hotel was immaculately clean staff always working so hard to keep the hotel to such a high standard of cleanliness. Food was so amazing with so much choice and the presentation was brilliant. My only grumble would be that sanitize was available at each restaurant and so little guests used them (we always did). It would be a shame if guests became unwell due to bad hygiene of guests and it would not be the hotel's fault. Maybe the hotel should encourage guests to use sanitize more often (like cruise ships do). I do think some previous guests have been a little unkind when stating the hotel guests were mainly elderly. Whilst we were there in May guests were of all ages. The male singer who was on 3 nights a week, brilliant singer who didn't take a break throughout his session. He made a point of treating his audience like friends we loved this guy! Overall wonderful hotel, fantastic staff and delicious food in a fabulous location, what more could you ask for. Athena Beach Hotel keep doing what you do because you stand out from the rest and we will definitely return!More
