Nice quiet resort but over run by wasps in food, in drinks and buzzing around all day. Men to bring trousers for evening wear or miss out on the best restaurant because they won’t let you in with shorts. You can’t even get into the buffet before 8.30 pm in shorts and then only have one hour to eat!! The spirits are clearly watered down and are NOT the brands on the bottles. The journey by boat from Dubrovnik is nearer 40 mins not 25 mins and the bus from the airport 45 mins and not 10 mins!! Poor snacks on offer during the day. Same buffet menu most days. More

Perfect piece of paradise
My partner and I have just come back from a week at Kalamota island. We had an incredible week and will certainly be returning in the future. Our transfer was easy and we enjoyed the boat ride to our island ( small amount of waiting around for boat but wasn’t a problem). The island is insanely beautiful and the views of the mountains were amazing. On arrival to the island our bags were taken to the hotel for us and we were greeted with juice and a damp towel which we were grateful for. Check in was incredibly fast. Our room was wonderful (partial sea view), it was clean, spacious and comfortable. There is Tea/ coffee making facilities and a well stocked mini bar. The balcony was fairly small but we still managed to enjoy a game of cards and some drinks on it every night. The hotel staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout the whole of our stay. The reps did a great welcome talk. Ged (entertainment rep) kept us well entertained throughout the stay and we thoroughly enjoyed the evening entertainment every night. The TUI reps were helpful and Ian helped to book two excursions for us which we thoroughly enjoyed. One of which was the vineyard tour. We had to organise to get the public ferry to Dubrovnik to start our excursion, but this wasn’t a problem. We were taken into the mountains where we visited local vineyards. It was wonderful to meet local, Croatian people and the locations were beautiful. We went on a road train between each vineyard which was fun. We missed the final place which was actually a commercial place, as we needed to get a private taxi in order to get our ferry in time. We were happy to miss the last stop as it really wasn’t as good as the other vineyards and we were pleased that arrangements had to made to get us to our ferry quickly and promptly. The second excursion we did was to Montenegro. We went on a minibus and stopped to get a boat to ‘“lady of the rocks”. We visited kotor and another place. It was a shame that it took a long time to get through border control but that couldn’t have been helped. Our tour guide ‘Tony’ was incredibly knowledgeable, funny and helpful. He was passionate and it was obvious that he really wanted us to have a lovely day. We got back to the hotel by about 8pm (ferry left at 6:35am). During our holiday we also spent time exploring the island. It is beautiful and there are breath taking views from the top of the hill. The pathways to the other side of the island are lovely to walk along and there are little churches etc along the way. We stopped at a taverna in a lovely, little harbour. We also visited Dubrovnik. We did this on Sunday as the public ferry times are slightly different which allowed us more time there. We had a lovely time wandering. We walked the city walls (hot!) and we went on the cable car (expensive but worth doing). We had lunch at the top which was lovely (fairly expensive but again worth it for the beautiful views). We ate in a side street pizzeria and then went to a bar on the main strip for drinks. We used Uber to get to and from the old town (cost equivalent to 9pounds each way but was fast and easy). Back to the hotel...the food was of a good quality and there was always enough to choose from. The drinks range was good and I enjoyed many different cocktails which was awesome. The pool had ample loungers. Even when we arrived at the pool in the afternoon there was always somewhere to sit. You could also sit on the sun loungers on the beach in front of the hotel if you wanted. The hotel had a range of different seating areas which was nice during the evening. Overall we had the best time and we were so impressed and pleased with the hotel. We have no complaints and would highly recommend. We heard people making petty complaints between themselves but there is no pleasing some people! On our final night we ate at Villa Rose (hotel gives 20 percent discount). It was expensive but wow...it was such a special meal. We booked for 7:30pm so we arrived in time to see a beautiful sunset. I would highly recommend splashing out and visiting for a fancy meal. The restaurant is al fresco and it is just so beautiful. The service was amazing and the food was exquisite. Thank you for a lovely holiday. Such happy memories!!More
Great Chilled But Welcoming Hotel
Just go home from this destination; great Hotel in a beautiful setting. The Hotel sits in a secluded bay and seems to protected from the winds by the headlands around. The Hotel itself is small but beautifully appointed. The Staff are superb, very helpful and a pleasure to be around. The buffet food is excellent compared with many All Inclusive Hotels. Plenty of sun loungers situated around the pool with many more scattered to the side if you want to get away from the wet area. Rooms are clean and well kept. Sea view rooms are much better than those with garden views which tend to only look out onto the slopes around so there really isn't a view. But, if you just want a bit of quiet and calm around your room they are more than adequate. It can be a bit of a (short) hike up to the rooms but unless you are really incapacitated it's not that bad. Being Adults only is certainly a bonus when it comes to poolside, dinning room etc. Spirits in the bar are generally 'big names' rather than local brews which is a bonus if that's what you like. being on an Island can be a little isolating though with ferry availability somewhat restricted but if you plan your days out on the mainland properly this is not really a problem. Dubrovnik is absolutely stunning and spotlessly clean. A 30 minute ferry ride followed by 5 - 6 minutes in a taxi or bus takes you right to the gate into the walled City - just make sure you know your ferry times!! Situated near to the tiny village of Donje Chelo on the Island of Kolocep , the Hotel, I believe, is the only one on the Island and although there is not really much to see on the Island this is such a great place to relax and soak up the rays. be careful though - no breeze means scorching hot rays!! There is a small sand beach with plenty of loungers and parasols and the sea is clean, generally very calm and gently slopes from the beach so you can't get out of your depth too quickly. I would certainly recommend this excellent Hotel if you want some peace and quiet and expect pretty high standards. Everyone can find fault somewhere and there are always the 'professional moaners' who will gripe on about something and nothing. We and the friends we made couldn't actually find much wrong at all!! Ok, perhaps the pool bar could open a little earlier (0900 instead of 1000) and when we were there they didn't provide 'waiter' service around the pool which would be a nice and much welcomed touch - but hey, we all need to get up a few times a day and walk around. It can get a bit hot and sticky up in the main bar area in the evening as there are no ceiling fans so there is no real movement of air to cool you down. Those are my only negatives!! Al-in-all - great Hotel, great location, superb service, excellent food, great rooms. We would certainly go back!!More
Booked this as a last minute break with my daughter so was not aware it was a couples resort nor of the brand Sensimar. The booking Tui website was easy and gave the flexibility of a range of airlines/departures. After a wait of about 30 minutes it was wonderful to be collected from Grus harbour in a private launch with cream leather seats - just the two of us. However, on arrival (cocktails & cold towels) we learned that it was only because Tui had us down as ‘no shows’ that we’d not been on the regular transport! The rooms are excellent- huge, efficient air conditioning, mini bar, large shower, toiletries & massives of towels. We had no problem with the walking as other guests seem to have mentioned. The dining room could be so much better at night if the lights were dimmed at dinner - the place has all of the ambience of a cafeteria. Okay at breakfast but pretty grim in the evening. However, We always found something to enjoy - plenty of salad choices and loved the honeycomb at breakfast. The hotel has excellent WiFi - however it was very amusing to see so many couples peering into their cellphones, ignoring many of the helpful hints in the booklet left in each room ‘Time for Two’. Not quite what the Sensimar has in mind for reconnecting as a couple one imagines. We spent all our days on the beach, just as we’d intended. My daughter took some of the classes with Heather and enjoyed them. We went to Dubrovnik on the ferry one day which I believe comes to Kolocep four times a day. Very inexpensive too. The bars do not serve branded liquor as far as I could see but that in no way impacts on the cocktails. Particularly enjoyed the evening bar on the hillside and the charming lady who runs it. Ged embodies much of what Tui doubtless considers to be its esprit de corps and is unfailingly cheerful. The young hotel staff are super busy but make your dining experience as pleasant as possible under the unblinking glare of those damned electric lights. We had a wonderful mother & daughter week but we probably wouldn’t return again nor with our significant others.More
Stunning location and amazing retreat
My husband and I have just returned from an amazing week on Kalamota. The hotel blends in perfectly with the feel of this beautiful island - everything about it is understated. There is low key evening entertainment and plenty of day time activities if you want to join in. Take a chill pill and go with the pace of island life. True, it’s not glitzy and glam, it’s charming and authentic. The hotel staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them. I’m a fussy eater, but the food was outstanding for a 3/4 star hotel - always plenty of variety and fresh grill every evening, and superb breakfasts. I think I ate my body weight in strawberry ice cream too! Ged, Heather, Ian and Wes were all very hard working and helpful. Do take the evening trip into Dubrovnik- it’s the most beautiful, vibrant and romantic city. Grab a quick meal at the hotel before catching the ferry so you have more time to wander the streets and explore. I would urge you to read reviews from people who stayed earlier in the year; I think some recent people expected something different / more from the location and hotel as they traveled in the height of the holiday season when prices are always higher. This isn’t a glitzy 5 star resort in Mauritius or the Caribbean, it’s a tasteful retreat only 2 1/2 hours from home. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend or return.More
