Exceptional Paradises Island
We travelled here last October , apologies it appears I never posted my updated review but I do feel passionate that I should write one and share my experience. This was our second visit , this time we were a week later than the last year. This time we went on a cruise the first week with Thomson - Marrella Cruises which sails from Dubrovnik which was fab but full on. It was therefore ideal then that we could just chill out on this pretty and peaceful island. As always the boat goes to the island on time and when you dock on the island the cases are transported by a buggy. On walking a short distance around the bay you are greeted by the staff who welcome you with a drink and a wet flannel. I had already upgraded the cabin on the cruise and decided not to upgrade the room here as the rooms were perfectly good last time. I did email the hotel with regards to booking trips and they said if there was a room with a balcony free they would accomadate us as past guests. I was over the moon to receive a room with a view and a balcony a welcome bottle of wine, and chocolates, in fact throughout our weeks stay we received another bottle of wine, a basket of fruit and a leaving package of tolitries. This hotel makes an effort with these little touches and nothing is too much trouble. Our room was spotless and spacious and I love the huge bathrooms here with a big walk in shower. A good thing about this hotel is that you have a mini bar which is stocked daily with beer, water and fizzy drinks and usually a couple of apples. The food on offer here is vast , it’s fresh and colourful with a selection of hot and cold food and I’m a very fussy eater. They have a coking station where you can pick out a selection of fresh meat, fish, or veg it varies each day and the chef will cook it in front of you. This is great for people who don’t like certain foods as you can tailor it to suit you. We did eat in the A la carte twice as this is always nice to be waited on and has a good choice of menu. We did pay to go to the other restaurant but was a bit disappointed with the steak there. The outdoor bar was open this time in the evenings it gets a bit chilly but they offer freshly laundered fleecy blankets which again is a nice touch. The lady that works here works extremely hard, her English isn’t great but she’s always smiling and makes the best cocktails ever. This hotel offers a range of activities which we like to join in. I would recommend the wine tasting. The evening entertainment is low key, music and quizzes but it’s relaxed. We opted to go on two trips one was the Bosnia, this is an early start and a long day but one of the best trips I’ve been on. Bosnia is very interesting with a range of cultures, I was shocked to see how many derrilict buildings there are this is due to war and they just do not have the money to rebuild. I would definitely recommend this trip, lots to see and do and it’s very cheap there too for clothes and eating out. The trip I would not recommend is the wine tasting because it was expensive for 5 small glasses of wine many were not great. The problem with this trip is you need to get the boat to the mainland then we proceeded to pick up passengers by coach which took hours. This was a long day and I think it was mis sold I’d say your better to do the free hotel wine tasting which is fun and better wine by far. If you do visit I would recommend that you explore the island there are some beautiful views with many little chapels to see. Remember to take water with you can get hot up there, if you can make it to the lighthouse it’s really worth it but it’s steep so you need to be fit and wear sensible shoes. If you venture out please visit the little bar around the bay, this is independent of the hotel , they are friendly and serve good beer. I would recommend a Day in Dubrovnik and also the rabbit island where they film Game of Thrones. This hotel is fantastic if you want to relax, it’s adults only most are over 40 years old. I think it would suit honeymooners but not particularly younger people. We are looking forward to staying for the third time in October as again we will be cruising the first week and we know we can rely on this hotel to provide outstanding service, comfort and great food with lots of rest and relaxation.More

relaxing
Beautiful views of the bay, very relaxing holiday with lots to do. The evening trip to Dubrovnik was really worth it, great sunset and we had a fantastic meal at the port. We really enjoy snorkelling and found several nice little bays to snorkel in although there was not as many different fish to see. More

Lovely, relaxing and peaceful but not 5 star!
We didn''t consider this resort to be 5*. It is obviously remote being on an island, with limited facilities and things to do on the island. We've enjoyed the varied food on offer, which has always been hot and plentiful. Never had to queue as some have stated and the hotel is full. The a la Carte choice in the hotel is poor and service on the night we went was poor. The a la Carte near the harbour is nicer food and choice. The bar area is a let down for the rating of the hotel. Not plush or invitingly set out. Entertainment varies from traditional dancing, a quiz night and singers. Nothing exciting at all. The main bar closes at 1130, however there's a garden bar which closes at midnight, would have expected it to stay open a bit longer than that. Drinks are fine and all staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious and basic, with shower only. We have a partial sea view which is lovely, I would advise villa 8 and ask for a sea view. There is a very small gym, which isn't listed on the facilities. Thomson run a sunset cruise trip at £25 pp. Sets off in September/October at 7-30! The suns been set for an hour! So it isn't a sunset cruise, just transfer from the hotel to old town. No information or drinks on board, open boat very cold, thank goodness it wasn't raining! When questioned the rep says the boat company stick to the same time through the seasons. So it's not a sunset cruise! Felt very dissapointed and misled by the sales pitch of this 'tour' Takes you to dubrovnik old town until 11pm and gets you back just as the bars close in the hotel. The private beach and pool are both very nice and clean. Not overcrowded while we were here. There is a games room with 2 pool tables and limited board games. Also a TV where they show football most nights. We spent 2 days in Dubrovnik old town as we booked a night stay in an apartment due to not wanting to come back at the latest 8pm ferry. This is highly recommended. We did a Game of Thrones boat/walking tour from Gruz port which ended in the old town, which was very good. Our Thomson arranged Lokrum island tour was cancelled due to not enough people but wasnt informed of this until we stood at the bay waiting! Thanks Thomson reps! Don't come here if you're expecting great entertainment during the day or night. Most of the reviews on here sum it up as a peaceful relaxing holiday correctly. In addition we've had 3 days in the old town and seen it all. It's very nice but wouldn't see or do much more in that time.More
BillandTracyB,
Lovely stay
We upgraded to a room with a view, loved this as the balcony had a stunning view. However be warned that you are asked not to take drinks up to the room and the reason we wanted one was to be able to sit and read with drinks on the balcony. Minibar didn’t have enough for us, so we took drinks up anyway. (Sorry!) Security sometimes have a hard time trying to keep visitors to the island from using the toilets, they worked hard at this and got some flack from tourists, felt bad for them! Food was fab! Cocktails were great! Service was great in the restaurants, even when busy. The beach isn’t child free but we still often chose to go to the beach as the view was beautiful! Again, security had to move some people on as they sat on the hotel loungers. We had a lovely walk around the island and explored some other coves to snorkel. Rooms were clean and cleaned well every day. Felt bad about the sand you brig back from the beach, they did a fab job of tidying up after us! Entertainment is the pool not my thing, but they weren’t pushy and left you alone which I liked! Again, beach was more peaceful and only a short walk back to the bar. Had no problems with ferry to get back to mainland. Would recommend and would happily stay again! More
