Not a 4 star
This hotel lacks love and investment. I'm sure when it was family owned (as per the photo in reception) it was probably a lot better. But it desperately needs some attention. We booked under a travel agent (big firm) as a 4 star but never heard anything back from them even though their poor rep was lovely. The rooms are ok. We stayed in the garden villa part. So pleased as we heard a lot of complaints. Room needs a good clean and the balcony area needs some maintenance. There are the remnants of old fittings all over the floor. They could just be unscrewed and removed and the tiles filled. The biggest complaint as we tried not to be there a lot, was the food. Dreadful. Cold greasy and recommend like others if you do brave evening meal then get there on time because its not heat lamped or warmed after its put out. We ate out in Dubrovnik as much as possible and the surrounding area has some gems. One Note : The team at the front desk were lovely !!More
Very happy with our choice
Lovely hotel, very central to everything in lapad approx 100 kuna into old town in taxi. Great facilities with 2 pools, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and spa. Excellent selection at breakfast. Our room had amazing view and beds were comfie with great air con. Only grip is the pool being used by people not staying at hotel. Struggle to find sunbeds in August in 35 degrees with people from other residences using the sun loungers and pool and none left for guests. Hotel seems to charge for the facility and leave guests without sunbeds and the pool very busy.Found most staff very friendly, great value for money for the time of year. Lovely food at tavern and pool bar....get a pizza you won't be disappointed!! More
Lovely clean hotel with a fabulous view & location. Staff were very friendly. An advantage would be to have some type of night time entertainment. Food was generally good but would only be "warm" mostly at evening time. Good choice at breakfast but always seemed to be a queue at the pancake stations due to machines not being refilled quick enough. All in all had a lovely holiday & will definitely return. More
Overall a good stay
We spent a week here at Grand Hotel while in Dubrovnik. The area around the hotel is mostly pedestrian, with a decent amount of parking within and next to the hotel which offers easy access to other areas of Dubrovnik. There are many restaurants and bars within walking distance of the hotel, and a large supermarket around 5 minutes from the hotel. The hotel itself is a large, 7 story complex with a large reception area and Bar. A small shop selling various items (not food though) is also on the ground floor past reception. Also on the ground floor is the enormous dining room, food service is often good but can get very busy. Food is always buffet, with a large selection on offer. Food isn't always top quality but it's still mostly enjoyable. Rooms either face towards the beach or towards the town and mountains (as pictured below). The rooms appear to differ in quality as we had two rooms next to each other which had great difference in quality. Rooms do come with air-con, a mini-bar (which is rather expensive), and a TV which often had little choice for British viewers. The rooms are rather spacious with a decent sized balcony that can be sat on. The bathrooms are dated and need updating immediately. Facilities on the lower ground floor include two large swimming pools (1 indoor, 1 outdoor), a hot tub, full gym and various spa treatment rooms. A pool bar is also next to the outdoor pool, offering light snacks and drinks. Staff were very helpful and friendly, only issue was check-in being 3pm due to international times. So it might be a long wait if you arrive early. Overall a good stayMore
Never seen 4 star
Arrived after a week on a cruise. The reception area and bar is nice as you enter. You have to wait till 2pm to check in. Prices in the hotel are ridiculous a bottle of water is 30 khuna in the supermarket behind (Tomys) the water is 6 khuna! Check in staff were pleasant. The room was just ok, shower old and doors kept opening when in. Bedroom average size, not enough coat hangers. Rooms not cleaned very well. We had peanuts on balcony when we first went in so this had not been swept. When cleaners come in they make beds and change towels and do not much else. The food in the hotel was not nice, half of the time it was cold, overdone and tasteless. We resorted to eating out for lunch and evening meal after 2 days. Some of the kitchen staff are rude coming out the kitchen they just barge past you. The pool is ok, watch underfoot as this does not seem to be swept much and cleaned. We had peanuts under our sun lounger for days, lots of sunbeds are damaged and the pool towels and pads for the sun loungers are grubby. The safe in room is free and the WiFi I would not return to this hotel. The resort is ok..More
