Halifax

The Halifax Amazing Mirror is a playful installation that demonstrates the more personal nature of banking.

The installation was commissioned by the marketing department as part of the Money Zone in the Millennium Dome exhibition. The concept is a technological update of the classic hall of mirrors fairground attraction. In this case a large "mirror" display distorts the image of the viewer with immediate comical effects.

The results are then broadcast to a large video wall display for spectators to share in the fun. Participants can also take a snapshot image to print out and take home.

From a commercial perspective the installation also allowed the Halifax to place banking staff on hand to answer queries, either about the installation itself or issues of personal finance. In addition, large digital displays to the side of the main video wall were used to project ambient advertising messages based on Flash animations.

Tui specified, designed and developed the sophisticated real-time image processing software and image distortion engine based on a software "lens".

The project was highly successful, attracting crowds of adults and children alike. Once people got the idea of the simple and immediate interaction they started to jump up and down and move around, experimenting with the effects and interacting with each other.
